    Note the beautiful simplicity of the design - post-tensioned concrete spanning the river. Easy to build, cheap, and without huge posts to support a suspension bridge. Love it.

    Nice shots, You take then from the Cambridge side and I'll take then from the Kitchener side. That will give us a good perspective.

    Four lanes, plus two on-street bike lanes.

    Fairway Rd from Pebblecreek Drive to Zeller Dr is now open for business..... finally no more heavy trucks down pebblecreek drive.

    Has anyone heard if the new bridge is still on track to open on Saturday?

    I've always wondered how a significant new section of road "opens" - at 5am or something do they just pull down the closed sign and that's that?

    They might do a christening ceremony for something like a bridge, but in general yes; it is usually that simple.

    Very nice, thanks for the link. So it looks like it will be open on Saturday, December 1?

    Presumably it could soft-open earlier, if the crews finished up a few days ahead of that date?

    I'm not sure right now as it has been delayed several times now. As a resident of the area I am looking forward to it opening asap. Unfortunately, the city of Kitchener has not planned appropriately enough for the increase in traffic volume on Fairway. It is a single lane, and the intersection on River and Fairway roads is going to be a traffic nightmare once this bridge opens.

    Is a single lane really a problem on an arterial like this? I believe that beyond about Morrison, Fairway is a true arterial - no driveways or access points, only having turns at other roads. Particularly on the bridge access, we have a roundabout at Zeller, unencumbered road to, over, and beyond the bridge, and another roundabout at Fountain. If no cars are turning, what benefit is there to a second lane?
