  1. Good to know! Thanks Urban.

I like the idea of having the first post as a header, but will we be going through all threads to edit the first post? I know some of them (BarrelYards comes to mind) have a TON of info on the first post and it doesn't make sense to have that come up every time

Yes, now get to work! Just joking it's going to take a bit of time to adjust some of those posts, but in the long run I think it will be a better system. A friend of mine who's a user interface software developer recommend having a collapsible post, but that might take awhile to develop, if I even can. So in the meantime Post #1 can be summaries and the heavier stuff can be shoved down to Post #2.

I like the idea a lot, I dont even think having it collapsable is necessary. As long as the first post is relatively short. With just basic info.

Any completed threads we can see?

I haven't had a chance to go through first posts yet, been busy trying to find out some styling settings instead as there are still a number of issues out there. For example if you're on the Downtowns Forum, the description should go across as one line (to me) instead of jumping down to line two half-way across the page. Eventually they'll all be fixed it will just take time, although quite a number of first posts are already in decent shape (title, render, project description, etc..).

I'll go through the Transportation and Infrastructure forum over the next week or so and redo the first posts where required.

If we wanted to make changes and take info from a post, can we put it in another post and have it be #2? If so, how?

One problem Im noticing with this, is that while it makes sense in threads for projects, in other general threads it then puts the first post at the top of the page on subsequent pages where it doesn't make sense (while for a construction project it would)

Im guessing there's no way to pick and choose which threads this feature is applied to?

I am wondering this as well.

Another issue is that some of the #1 posts have good information in them, but they are very long (usually due to large images or lots of text). Scolling through 5+ screens of post #1 on each page gets quite annoying.

I think we should also aim to keep our #1 posts to one screen or less.

Yes we can pick and change based on the forum level. Which ones do you want to turn off immediately?

Although personally I'd keep that setting on most and leave Post 1 as a summary. For example on a food thread, you could leave up a photo of the favourite eatery in type (ie. a photo of Pepi's in the Pizza thread).

What you do is copy Post 1 into the same thread. Then edit the two posts accordingly (ie. Post 2 might contain all the old price lists for a condo, but Post 1 would contain the latest list). It's in the moderator control panel, but just make a copy of the entire thread first as a testing grounds, so if anything goes wrong you can revert back easily.

I'd get rid of it on most things in the general discussion. Is there a way we can do a summery on the top of certain threads like at Vibrant Victoria (http://www.vibrantvictoria.ca/forum/...ead.php?t=1215)

I got rid of this feature for all of the general forums.

The reason I'm not going with a header style like that is because it would take too much maintenance to upkeep. That way if you came across a new rendering you'd have to PM me to update it. The method I choose (1st Post) allows moderators to edit them, so now if you came across a new rendering you can update it yourself, which takes some of the workload off of me. I can try to make the 1st post stand out and look a bit different though, but that's going to take some time. Unless someone else is volunteering to spend hours researching and coding a new template?

Ahh yes, that makes a lot of sense, I hadn't thought of that. Good call!

Should we keep a list of threads that shouldn't have the first post header?

Unfortunately it's only selectable by forum, so the ones I turned off were: General Discussion, Waterloo Region Photography, Outside Waterloo Region & Forum Issues.

If there are other just let me know. Think of this as "no pain, no gain". Sure some of the threads don't look great at the moment, but given time they will look better in the future. It's just going to take hours to go through everything, so please be patient everyone.

I find this feature often very confusing, mostly because there isn't any distinction to indicate that the first post on page N is out of chronological order. Can it look different, or have some kind of larger space between it and other posts?

That is a great idea. Maybe a different coloured top bar?

I like the black title bar - it helps distinguish it from the rest of the posts. However, I notice THIS thread doesn't have the #1 post with a black title bar. Is there a special setting we should remember when creating a new thread in order to have it coloured black?

I think that's because the first post is not repeated at the top of each page in this forum section.
