Grand River Transit operating an efficient, successful system

In the period between 2002 and 2010, transit ridership in Waterloo Region grew on average by 925,000 boardings per year. This is incredible system growth, so much so that other transit agencies try to emulate Grand River Transit's performance.
Of this annual increase, students constituted less than half — 48 per cent to be exact. In other words, in this period Grand River Transit attracted on average 480,000 new, non-student rides every year. And the trend is even more positive. In 2010, about 850,000 more non-student fares were collected by Grand River Transit than in 2009.
It's clear that while students are important to Grand River Transit, the community as a whole is responding very positively to the system.
