Going by this stretch of King st yesterday I noticed some excavation work was taking place between 345 King and 333 King st, has anyone seen any info for the project taking place? It could have been some utility work but with all of these stucco monsters going up it gets confusing to track them all.

I believe this is another tower getting started.

Yeah I was wondering. They are installing shoring today... at least I think that's what you call it. Good size crew there this morning. No renderings or anything for what's going in?

Good looking building potentially. The massing is better than the crazy wide blocks next to it.

The bad however is clear. Students only. No ground floor retail. That's ok, it's not like it's Waterloo's main street or anything. Oh wait.

Each place has it charms, and as improved as downtown Kitchener is the last two times I was there I still did not feel like it has fully turned the corner. Getting darn close though.

Downtown needs three to five more years like the one it had this year to again be an urban core that people consider a destination. Personally, I find Uptown very nice, with a solid retail component (and the Princess Cinemas!), but somehow lacking in character, although I do like the plaza at Waterloo Square. There seem to be two different camps of residents in terms of those who favour Uptown and those who are drawn Downtown (although the vast majority still seems wedded to the suburbs).

Edit: Sorry, I went off-topic. I don't find this tower any worse that most of those that have gone up around it, but that's not saying much. Absent a more vibrant street life north of Uptown, it is hard to find good things to say about what has been happening with all these five bedroom student apartments.

I personally would like to see a condo tower or two downtown somewhere. Maybe the Post office Depot location ( which I believe is closing (or closed)

I actually really like the dark brick. Too bad the building it's covering doesn't make me the feel the same way.
