I looks like the Arcadian Court restaurant at The Bay in Fairview has closed. The last few times I have been there, looking up from the atrium in front of The Bay, the lights have all been off. Can anyone confirm?
I gave The Bay a call, and I can confirm a restaurant no longer exists there. I asked what was moving in instead and it's unknown at this point.
I was in Fairview Mall last week and I noticed the lights were off. The first thing that popped into my head was "where are all the grey haired ladies going to go for their tea and cookies break while shopping?"![]()
It closed permanently in January this year. The furniture is still there. It looks like 1968 with 1980 upgrades in there.Originally Posted by Duke-of-Waterloo

Fairview will be getting a Teopia sometime in late spring in the old Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory space.
This according to their current leasing plan - http://www.cfspace.com/pdf/plans/fpmop00_floorplan.pdf
Roots has closed at Fairview, and will be replaced by a Bath and Body Works. Has Roots lost it's appeal?
Also at Fairview:
- Jacob has closed
- Hallmark has downsized and relocated to the old HMV location. This leaves 2 large adjacent units vacant (Jacob and Hallmark), totalling 9,800 square feet. Anyone know their plans for this space?
- West 49 has relocated to former Campus Crew location
See leasing plan link in above post.

That's a good question Duke.. I haven't thought of shopping at Roots for a very long time. It's almost like since Roots lost the Canadian Olympic Clothing line to The Bay/Zellers, they've been also begun losing the hearts and minds of Canadians.Originally Posted by Duke-of-Waterloo

And Jacob closing is a significant loss too. Surprising.
It doesn't help that Roots is kind of expensive....
They peaked with the Salt Lake berets--I'd never bought anything there before, and the only thing I bought after was a scarf (that I've since lost and replaced with an HBC scarf).
Hollister Co. will be opening soon at Fairview Park. No date has been specified, but it will likely be open by the upcoming Christmas season.

Really? Fairview mall?, that's a big land for them if so.
Waterloo Region is starting to get all these "bigger" brands now. I also heard Jack And Jones is opening in Cambridge Center
Now if one or two of these opens in the core, watch out.
Ya really... I'm still hoping that if Lululemon opens a store in the region they decide to make it uptown waterloo
I bet it's in the old hallmark and Jacob space.Originally Posted by Duke-of-Waterloo
This makes sense all the other malls that hollister is listed as being in, in Ontario, Cadillac Fairview properties; including the Lime Ridge mall.
I think Waterloo Region is pretty well covered for retail. We're not missing much...Harry Rosen, Holt Renfrew, Club Monaco (?), and IKEA. Just the big city stuff really. We do have Banana Republic and I remember reading a thread in the Winnipeg section of SSP and they said they were only getting their first H&M...a few months ago.
I really think a Ikea is coming sometime soon and it would most likely be on the 401.
If they put one anywhere near Sportsworld it would help that area out a lot, especially if another Costco gets built in the Region
With the exception of Upper Canada in Newmarket (Ivanhoe Cambridge), yes. I'm kind of surprised they didn't open in Conestoga actually, but both malls are pretty much identical in stores now (like 80% are the exact same). You'd think a $76 million reno/expansion would be a good selling feature.Originally Posted by neonjoe
I've also heard rumours that Wal-Mart will close the Fairview location once The Boardwalk Wal-Mart Supercentre opens and convert this space to even more stores.
Maybe Conestoga didn't have an open spot that Hollister liked?Originally Posted by Duke-of-Waterloo
And if that's true about Wal Mart, wow, I'd be shocked. Not only a big vacancy to fill, but Wal Mart typically likes to have lots of stores to dominate the marketplace as best as they can.
