Here's a before-and-after photo posted on the KPL's facebook page this morning, showing the progress that's been made over the past 12 months:

When I lived in Kitchener it was during the period when the library was considered for the Centre Block area....and of course that didn't happen. Great to see its present site get a much needed expansion. Can't wait to see it finished....and for Kitchener to have decent library at long last.

It would have looked cool if they did 3 or 4 stories with the addition to give a step down effect.

Might be a bit overkill for now, but it's a preemptive strike against needing more space down the road.

Wow, that's looking to be a nice, open second story. Great stuff!

Had some time during a visit today to grab some shots of the progress. First up, we can see that the entry ramp to underground parking will have glass walls:

Then around back, the structural supports are now out and we can see the open space and high ceilings of the rear addition - simply gorgeous:

Will there be a walkway from Queen St to the courtyard along the Gaol wall? I am assuming that there must be (certainly hope so), but it isn't really clear to me from any of the photos or from the renderings.

Their ground floor plan appears to rule that out.

Notices are up within the library that the underground parking will open effective next Thursday! The surface lot to the north will then close so excavation can start for phase 2 of the garage.

    Great updates everyone!

The details on this one look good... the black and white striped precast cladding, the glass we've seen so far, even the garage door all look nice and crisp and modern. Looking forward to more!
