Im anxious to see what they do in front of this building. The building itself is coming along really nicely and I think is going to look good when it's done, but Im not a huge fan of the grass out front and the fences. If they did landscaping with some stonework/patiostone, that'd look very nice, and would serve as great public space.
Space for window air conditioning?

Considering that it's directly facing a public park, the grass simply matches what's on the other side of David.Originally Posted by Spokes
As for a "public space", that's what the park is for, not these people's front yard! Given that Victoria Park is fairly high traffic, I can understand the fence, just keeping a little buffer zone.
Walked by today and got some pictures of the progress. As I walked to the other side of Victoria Park, I took some photos so that you can see how it fits in with the larger buildings beside+behind...

Thanks for the picture!!
This thing looks pretty good, it really fits in with the neighbourhood. I wonder if when they build the second building if they'll do it the exact same or change the design up.

This turned out quite nicely. The real question is how long are they going to wait to build on the other part of the property. While it's unbuilt, they'll have to have a fence around it, particularly on the upper level, unless they plan to grade the entire property.
This does look better than I anticipated, it has a vintage look which I appreciate.
Does anyone know if these are going to be rentals?
Yes, they're low income housing by Kitchener Housing Inc.Originally Posted by Matt2727
So can anyone just rent them or do you have to meet some sort of requirement?
^^ Thanks!
They do accept market rate rentals (they were posted on kijiji even), but there's some limit on the number. I don't know if it's a fixed limit, or based on the demand for subsidized rentals. A friend of ours has a market rate unit though and is excited to be moving in there.Originally Posted by mpd618
Out of curiousity, how much are these units going for?Originally Posted by EdM

These fit in well with the streetscpe. Are there plans to start on phase two any time soon?
Given the grass/trees on site, it appears as though phase 2 won't be a quick follow up.

Shame, considering that a) this is a great project that I'd love to see more of, and b) there isn't near enough affordable housing available region-wide.Originally Posted by UrbanWaterloo
