We toured a client through the upper floors last month. The interior is gorgeous and will look great when it's built out.Originally Posted by UrbanWaterloo

I wonder whether they'll be able to save those large yellow and black tiles in the street entrance? A few have been removed but they have a terrific 1930's vibe.Originally Posted by benjaminbach
Summer construction season is in full swing - repairs to the concrete of the "south" side of the Duke St parking garage are now underway.
19 King Street E is getting a renovated facade - looks like they are installing beige and brown polished granite tiles.
Here's a few photos...

New City Supermarket (asian grocery store) in downtown Kitchener is expanding.. sort of.
They are setting up a newhouseware / kitchenware store two doors down from the supermarket, next to the chinese bakery/bubble tea store that recently open up. The store front signs are up but the store is still empty.
I hope it will be like Tap Phong in Toronto http://www.yelp.ca/biz/tap-phong-tra...ompany-toronto
Could we officially call that stretch of King Chinatown yet?
I call it 'East-Asian Town' personally, as there's as much Korean- and Vietnamese-related business as there is Chinese.Originally Posted by 519
It'll be interesting to see this when it's complete. I hope they do something with the mirrored part, I really don't think it looks as good as it could.![]()
After a long delay, it looks like renovations have finally (re)started on Dandy's Restaurant at 85 King W, next to Gloss. Can't tell if it's just the main floor or also the apartments upstairs that were damaged in a fire.

I was curious as to what happened there. I remember seeing workers installing new windows to the upper floors and doing some other work about 3 months ago. It'd be great to see that storefront get a facelift as well.Originally Posted by panamaniac
Great update of 117 King St. West! I love the smooth glass facade they are using... it looks great framed by the old stone facade.
Just noticed this morning that the furniture rental place at 99(?) King St W has moved out to a location in the 'burbs. While I regret seeing another empty store front, I don't think this is much of a loss and hopefully will provide an opportunity for something better to move in. The pace of openings and closings Downtown has really picked up this summer.
Tri-City music is going to move in to that location after having to move to a temporary location at Gaukel and King as a cascading result of the redevelopment of 117 King St. by the Perimeter Development. http://www.therecord.com/print/article/579508Originally Posted by panamaniac
Actually, I really hated that location for furniture rental, because there were often trucks loading and unloading furniture blocking King Street there. They can, for instance, cause one to lose sideview mirrors.Originally Posted by panamaniac
Indeed, I am also pleased to see the furniture trucks gone.Originally Posted by plam
In other news, not sure when, but a Spanish language church seems to have occupied the former Jessups Cleaners on Ontario Street at Duke. Good to see the space being used, although I always thought that the Centre Block development, if it ever gets built, should have incorporated the buildings along Duke to Ontario Street.
Does anyone know what is happening at the former Circus Room bar on King East just west of Stirling? There is some interesting brickwork being added to the front. I guess a homicide is a good reason to undertake renovations ......
My co-worker who lives in that neighbourhood heard that it is going to be a tattoo parlour... A marginal improvement over what was there before?Originally Posted by panamaniac
I hope your co-worker is wrong about that - not like Downtown is suffering a lack of tatoo parlours. Better than a scuzzy bar, pawn shop or cheque cashing business, but definitely at the low end of the scale, along with lawyer's offices.....Originally Posted by fin2limb
