I agree, Canadian Tire doesn't seem to see the large opportunity they have with that prime piece of land. I think this article provides some good information on the area http://www.therecord.com/news/busine...er-record-site

It's pretty clear to me that this entire property has been purchased by the region for something LRT related or whoever owns it is on hold.

It wouldn't surprise me to see some kind of transit hub developed in this area. Best Buy is closing too, so that will leave the entire area from Wilson to the expressway south of Fairway Rd to be redeveloped.

Whatever it is, it will be big.

This is all news to me. Where have you heard that the region has purchased the land? and also that best buy is closing? (I find that a little odd considering it's always busy in that location)

I said "or whoever owns it."

The Best Buy closing has been known for some time.

The area has a huge amount of property with an extremely high value. The plaza at Wilson and Fairway has been half empty for years and there seems to be no effort to populate it with business. It looks like the same thing that went on along Victoria St. before the region announced it had purchased those properties. If it looks liked government waste...

    My opinion is speculation.

The Region has no need for any property there. The LRT and bus connections will be in the Fairview Mall parking area. There is enough commercial already along Fairway Road...............Whoever owns it may be thinking Residential condos.

Not necessarily there, but the Region will at some point need to extend the LRT across Fairway Road to the rail corridor.

I believe Cadillac Fairview still owns that land, as well as Fairview Mall across the street.

Which can be easily enough done in the Wabanaki Drive/Hydro lands area. They have no need for anything on the Best Buy side.

I passed too quickly to be sure, but there seems to be a new Korean restaurant on King St East across from the interesection with Scott. Has anyone tried it?

Jack Astor's looks to be opening a Kitchener location again, this time in Fairview Park mall in the old Lenscrafter's location.

I had lunch at Shinla on Saturday. Really friendly staff, and a large and nicely varied menu (including beer/soju). I had the seafood with noodles soup, which for $9 was a massive portion with a good variety of octopus, squid, shrimp, and clams - and was served with 3 small dishes of kimchi and a bit of pancake, which I wasn't expecting in a lunch portion. I'm definitely going back for dinner soon.

I tried Breadheads last week (Duke and Queen in downtown Kitchener) and was rather disappointed. $8 bought me a very small pizza with a couple of cherry tomatos, some sauce and a bit of cheese. I don't mind paying for gourmet pizza but felt the prices did not reflect value. The sandwiches also seemed inflated for what you paid. I will stick to the mexican place next door which always seems to be busy compared to Breadheads. Now I know why...

Shamefully, I haven't been to Breadheads yet, but it kind of sounds like you're mistaking your displeasure with the style of pizza for a lack of generosity on the part of the bakers. You can't really pile on the toppings on a thin crust, as it won't crisp properly. Perhaps as a result (or perhaps merely reflecting the taste of the region from which it is derived), Pizza in this style is typically more about the base than the toppings anyway.
