73 King Street West - Trying to Attract a Country Style
February 5, 2010
![]()
Funny, there's a country style moving into Westmount Place. When I saw it I thought to myself "When's the last time I saw a country style?" I grew up on that stuff!
That's odd since there's one located in the King Centre/Manulife office. (Terrible street presence though)
The coffee shop at King Centre/Manulife is actually a Coffee Time. Come on dude, in the country "which proudly boasts the highest per-capita doughnut consumption in the world" you gotta know your stuff. A few years ago I heard someone had their passport application rejected for mixing up a Robin's Donuts & a Country Style so it really is important.![]()
Oops. Now thats embarassing. Citizenship revoked!Originally Posted by UrbanWaterloo
Any idea where they'd have the coffee shop? I hope it's not like the Coffee Time where you actually have to go inside to access it. It's own entrance would be great. That's one of the things I hate about the Coffee Time at Manulife
Casa Salsa in the University Plaza is gone, replaced with an "oriental" restaurant (I think).
A Marble Slab Creamery will be opening at the ROCK Commercial site at the corner of Erb Street and Ira Needles Boulevard in Waterloo in just over 2 weeks.
This is according to Marble Slab KW's Facebook fan page.
I can't see all these franchise locations being terribly successful at the rate they are going. Expanding way too fast and IMO not that great of a product. I too can fondle my ice cream at home on a marble slab and waaaaaaaaaaaay less the cost.Originally Posted by Duke-of-Waterloo
Thanks for the info though Duke. Interested to hear of the businesses going in that location.

Yeah, some sort of Chinese restaurant. I tried asking at the market about what happened to the Waterloo location of Casa Salsa, but they said I'd have to ask the owner.Originally Posted by mpd618
I know the owner's son. I'll get on that.
Smoke's Poutinerie is "looking for space and franchisees with goal to open Spring 2010" in Kitchener-Waterloo, according to their site's locations page.
Anybody ever been to a Smoke's Poutinerie before & if so how does it stack up? Love grabbing poutine after drinking or on a lazy day, although I've yet to find a place as good as Club le Sandwich (1578 St. Catherine St. E.) in Montreal: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1578%2...N&hl=en&tab=wl
I keep on trying to go to a Smoke's Poutinerie but failing. The most recent time was last Sunday night. Unfortunately they close at 9 on Sundays. My gf used to work right by Sandwich, but I've never been there. La Belle Province is the classic poutine source for me.Originally Posted by UrbanWaterloo
Smokes is an amazing little operation. I've eaten there numerous times and it has always been delicious. Huge menu, variety of soda and great service. Couldn't ask for more.
Once called in an order at closing and they were kind enough to oblige.
The only place better is Belle Province, but they're in a league of their own.
I haven't been to Smoke's, so I can't say whether they're better, but they're certainly in a league of their own. It's just that you can't get more classic than Belle Province.Originally Posted by Oliver.Ashton@Remax.net
Strangely enough, Belle Province is not actually all franchised. I've also noticed differences between different locations.
I've never been but it sounds good! Just went to the website and checked out the menu. It's pretty extensive.
I was in St Jacobs the other day at Xclusive Elements and I was talking to the owner and he was saying that they were deciding weather or not they would be keeping their Shops location in the mall. He also said Moxies is moving in to the Scotia Bank spot. (crosses fingers)

Wow. I really hope this happens. I'll be tossing some money their way for sure haha.
