    Construction worker escapes building collapse in Waterloo

    A close call for a man working at a construction site in Waterloo Friday night. The man was working at the site of the new Waterloo Regional Police building at Columbia St. E. and Weber St. N., when the second floor of the structure collapsed.

    The man was smoothing newly poured concrete at the time of the collapse. He was able to escape without injury.
    No clear word on how bad a collapse this is or how much this sets back the construction timeline.

    UPDATE: The Record has a photo, which shows that, while in an isolated section, the damage is still significant.

    The roof in the corner is slanted. It was not originally intended that way but after the accident it became that way.

    Those identically - sized, perfectly rectangular panels seem to me to be set up for replaceable graphics.

    Some brick, composite cladding materials, and even wood would have made this building so much better.

    The forms and shapes at work on it look good but the materials absolutely killed it. Bland, outdated... looks like something from a 1990s office park. Arghhhh.

    Man you guys are critics! If every building had to be a Da Vinci, nothing would be built around here. I for one prefer this to what was here 5 years ago (decrepit empty factory, in case you've forgotten).
