This isn't really the appropriate place to ask, but since with few exceptions these new student warehouses seem to be crap, would there be merit in folding them all into a single thread? Maybe for the few that offer something interesting there should be a dedicated thread.

I'd be hard pressed to find more than a few that wouldn't qualify for "Urban Design / The Brown Mile".

Are the architects/designers of these buildings blind? Like how can there be so many ugly buildings? If I were an architect I'd never want my name associated with something like that.

Oh and that the retail is going to be a food court. Of course it is. Ridiculous.

    Why is that ridiculous ?

The building is a horror show, but I really don't see the problem with restaurants or a food court at street level. There will be plenty of hungry students living nearby.

And it's the closest thing to ground-floor retail that most of these buildings will ever have.

Because it doesn't really do a whole hell of a lot to promote an active street IMO. Not the same way true ground floor retail would.

I don't necessarily disagree, but then again baby steps. I sure hope the anti-commercial zoning restriction on University goes away shortly after that.

The glass wall has been going up around the food court...

  15. If only they had built the rest of the tower out of that glass wall...

A three-storey food court, eh? Interesting.

An absolutely hideous development. This one now beats the stucco puke monster at King and Columbia IMO. I like to give praise to developers like Momentum and the Sage group. I need to give equal attention to pure vomit. Congrats Linden Village Incorp. for having the ugliest development in Waterloo for 2012!

What I don't understand is what architect would be ok with their name being associated with this project.

I like how the two sections of the project have completely different styles.

Does anyone know what tenants are signed up to open at this food court?
