Winter Sports Expo 2010
(Waterloo, ON – Dec. 21, 2009) The Winter Sports Expo 2010 will make the Waterloo Public Square the place to be on Saturdays in January.
Different sports will be featured each Saturday – from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. – with free shows, demonstrations and lessons.
“The expo is a great opportunity for people to have fun in the heart of Waterloo while learning more about winter sports,” said Tracy Suerich, the public square’s programming co-ordinator. “We’re hoping that families and friends will gather in the public square and really enjoy the season.”
Here’s the schedule:
• Jan. 9 – Hockey
• Jan. 16 – Snowboarding and skiing
• Jan. 23 – Figure skating
• Jan. 30 – Curling
The fun gets underway on Jan. 9 with hockey skills training and demonstrations, sponsored by the Waterloo Siskins.
On Jan. 16, it will be snowboarding and skiing, sponsored by Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort. This will include ski fittings, a chance to meet Olympic ski athletes and extreme sports demonstrations.
On Jan. 23, the sport will be figure skating, with a show and lessons by the Kitchener-Waterloo Skating Club.
And the expo will wrap up on Jan. 30 with curling, sponsored by the Kitchener-Waterloo Granite Club.
The public square will be hopping in the winter with the new skating rink up and running, weather, construction and maintenance permitting. In addition to open skates, the rink will cater to preschool-aged kids on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon and to youths on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
