Stumbled on these interesting videos from from MetaMedia Productions called Symphony of Design. They're about design in Waterloo Region. They've got the intro and extro, looking to find the middle.

Intro - http://www.vimeo.com/7733920

Extro - http://www.vimeo.com/7763336

EDIT: So I tried to embed the video into the post. Didn't work, so unless someone can help me do that, just follow the above links.

Ok so I found the whole thing. Its about 20 minutes long, but well worth it. This is an amazing video. They've focused on some excellent design examples throughout the region. They truly make us look good!

That is a very cool video, espically for me since I have not seen inside some of the buildings they were showcasing in the video. It really goes to show some of the evolving ideas of the region, very good find.

Great find spokes! This video's awesome and very up-to-date too! (somewhere around November 2009) :)

What's your favourite part?

*video embedding - i still need to put a modification on for that, I'll try to add it this week.

I was in the same boat leaffan! I hadn't been in a lot of the places so seeing the interior was cool.

Hmmm favorite part.... I think I'd have to go with the school of architecture. Maybe because I hadn't seen much if any of it before. (that's my favorite part of the video, not necessarily my favorite building, although I do like it a lot).

From a non-development stand point, I LOVED the piece they did on Streetscapes. I think that was really great. Maybe even my favorite.

Being as I've picked multiple favorites already, I'll say, I love the whole video. It really shows what we've got going on in Waterloo Region. A great bit of promotion. Looking forward to seeing a sequel in 5 years.

What about you guys?

Best quote from the whole video..."we have to start making downtowns more of a destination rather than a place"

I think the highlight for me was seeing the inside of the Centre for International Governance Innovation‎ building, Id love to go in there someday and take some pictures.

I found one way to embed a video (http://www.wonderfulwaterloo.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#videocode). Quote this post to see the exact example; although I'd still like to find the 'simple method' of [vimeo] # [/vimeo ]

So this video is being brought up at Waterloo's Council meeting Monday. Not sure in what context, maybe just viewing it? This is what the agenda says, maybe someone with a bit more experience can decipher it:

I can figure out most of the locations in the video, but this one stumps me.

Thanks. It's interesting, it looks like a small courtyard in the video, but looking at street view I definitely see where it is.

There's some cool stuff in there taking note of a lot of the city's history. Worth a look.

Well the city of Kitchener has finally recognized this video. They posted a link to it on their main front page at Kitchener.ca

I really hope they gave credit where credit was due, and not made it seem like everything in that video was from or located in or because of Kitchener...

They gave a link directly to the Tech Triangle website.

I don't think it's Kitchener's place to post this video on their website, nor any of the other lower tier municipalitys'. A video like this belongs on the Region's website.

Ya I can see that. But don't really see it as being out of their place. It'd be different if they called it a video about Kitchener alone. They refer to it as "urban design video"

With that take, each municipality in the Region should post this video on their websites which doesn't make sense. It was a video made for urban design in the entire Region, not just one municipality in particular. Again, the best place for it is on the Region's site, a tourism site, or leaving it on the Technology Triangle site.

Im not arguing with the fact that it should be on the Regions website, but why not the municipalities too? There's nothing stopping the other municipalities from posting it, I think they should.

I agree. The more promotion of the cities/region the better.
