And it worked great when there were only that many cars on the highway. Not so much when they replaced it!

Look how pristine everything was then.

That interchange wouldn't work today, way to many cars! It's hard to believe that not too long ago highway 8 at Fairway Rd. was only 4 lanes. Now it's 8 lanes and even 10.

I knew there were more pics on the site but couldn't find them last night. Here they are.

Thanks Razzie! These pictures are awesome and that site where you got the pics from is great. It looks like it has information on every section of every highway in Ontario with so many pictures.

I wasn't around in the 60's so I was wondering, before the 4 lane highway 8 was being built in 1966, did King Street (old highway 8) go down where current highway 8 is now? Or did old King go down current highway 8 is now and continue where Weber turns into King? (If that makes any sense).

Those are great pictures. It gives such a different perspective on the project seeing the roads back and and knowing what they look like now. The Conestoga Parkway, the project that changed the development and growth of K-W more than any other single project in the cities' histories.

That stretch of King used to be Highway 8, and still is once you get to the area between Highway 401 and Mobilife. Based on the pictures, I'm guessing they left a corridor (or created one) to the west of King so they could build the highway. With the highway's current width, King Street along that small stretch has now disappeared completely, and therefore is where Highway 8 is now. I was born in 1983 so I don't know all the details, but I work in a building that used to face King and was demolished so it could face Weber after the highway expansion, and I hear a lot from the workers who have been there for quite some time.

Waterlooer, if you mean the section between Fairway Road and the overpass, I think King must have gone through. The roads line up perfectly with each other--there's even a stub of King Street left over. I expect Weber south of the flyover didn't exist when that part of the highway was built.
