A cool project is being introduced over in San Francisco.
Here's a video outlining it...http://vimeo.com/13867453

I think its an interesting idea, its got some flaws, but its still cool. It doesn't do much to get people out of their cars. If anything it makes them stay in them. Cool technology none the less.
And rates dropping as low as 25 cents an hour? Wow. Too low. I do however like how they adjust parking prices based on demand.

In places with parking that is currently underpriced, paying a market rate will encourage some drivers to use alternate modes. But just as significantly, keeping 10-15% of spots free will reduce the number of drivers circling the block, which is a reduction in driving.

That just means that there is an excessive supply of parking. It's supply and demand. If there is so much parking it has essentially no value, that is a clear indication that offstreet parking should be redeveloped into something more useful, and perhaps that on-street parking could be removed to make more space for transit, cyclists, or pedestrians. It's actually rather brilliant.

Ahh that makes sense. I hadn't thought about it that way. The 25 cent number stuck out to me, but I guess there's little chance that it'd actually drop that low, just that it COULD if there were no demand.
I'd like to see our parking rates here reflect supply and demand rather than just what the city determines they want to charge.
