Uptown cafe honours Family Day by fundraising for families
Business | Feb 10, 2010

Seven Shores Urban Market and Cafe wants to invite the community to get involved in building safe, happy homes.
In honour of Family Day, during the month of February, the cafe is inviting people to drop off donations of gently used items for the Family Violence Relocation Project.

This project helps parents and children who are escaping family violence, and are often left with little or no posessions, to set up new homes.

The idea is to clean up your own life — freeing up time and space for friends and family— while thinking of a way to help others.

“We are offering a seminar on de-cluttering, which will help with downsizing stuff, create more organization in the home, which allows for more time to live the life you want,” said Amy Zister from Seven Shores.

“As we begin to clear things up, keep in mind donations to those less fortunate.

“Seven Shores is opening up the cafe in February for gently used items for the Family Violence Relocation Project, a way for us to help rebuild some families in our community.

“We all deserve love, family, and a great use of our time.”

The de-cluttering seminar is being conducted by a professonal organizer and will be held Feb. 17 at 7 p. m. at Seven Shores, located at 8 Regina St. N. in Waterloo. RSVP to 519-342-0916 by Feb. 13.

I have to separate that fron Gen-X, or there will be hurt feelings.

That said, it would make up for the BPR Lofts losing their bakery, and the area could use one. Hope to see success for them in an expanded role!

Is Gen-X closing then or just moving somewhere?

I went to Seven Shores Saturday, and it looks like they're moving to Generation X's old space. I'm glad they're able to expand because I really like this place. This should be a good move for them as the space is much larger---they only have about 6 tables currently.

They are indeed, both moving and expanding.

Thats so great to hear. I'm looking forward to seeing more seating and maybe a bit longer hours with the expansion (hopefully)?

I can't count the number of times I've tried to organize a quick coffee with friends after work here, but by the time everyone is good to go, they're closed. 7PM is too early for a cafe. :( Seems to be pretty popular on Scoopl too - http://www.scoopl.com/biz/on-s101407/.

Looking through their photos on their website, it kind of seems like Rising Dough in Cambridge which is more focused on their Scottish heritage as opposed to organic foods that Seven Shores offers. I may have to check this place out sometime soon.

You could try Death Valley's Little Brother at King and Bridgeport (in old Papa Lou's). They locally source their beans and confectionaries, and while it would be hard to locally source scotch and whisky, they do have an organic one. Definitely a much more personable feel than most coffee joints, with a young husband and wife team.

But back to SS: very nice place, great open feel to the new spot.
