Starlight, while it is an absolutely fun place to be, needs to do more effective advertising to publicize their live shows. Walking to its location and staring at the posters outside the front door is not the best way I'd like to learn about a great band coming in for a show.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard about a Starlight show AFTER IT WAS OVER, I would be rich enough to pay for the advertising campaign I'm proposing.

I worry that because they have sold out shows enough times, that they're not too worried about advertising. Why would you tell more people about a show when you know that not all of them could make it, right? Well, no, I'm merely asking to play on psychology here. If you advertise more the fact that some amazing Canadian bands have picked your venue to perform, and if people throng to get tickets and get disappointed because the show they want to go to is sold out, then people will start paying even more attention to your club, maybe even taking the time to walk to your front door and staring at your posters. You'll create more of a buzz about how hot and respected your club is. People will talk to each other about keeping tabs on your event schedule. The phrase, "Hey, wanna go to that Starlight show?" will become more popular....

I love your venue, but please do more to let me know when bands are coming in.

I forgot to mention one thing:

With all the attention at your club, it will almost undoubtedly assure solid attendance rates on nights where you dont have live shows.

Also, always remember that every September, a whole new generation of potential clients moves into this region to start school. They need to know about how great your club is. Similarly, a whole generation of clients leaves this region around the same time after they graduate. With the buzz you'd generate from whatever creative advertising campaign you come up with, you'd have the seniors letting the juniors know that Starlight is a great place to be, and that word-of-mouthcycle, if stoked the right way, gives you publicity that money usually can't buy.

In my opinion Advertising/Marketing is not a strong point in Waterloo Region, especially for the good things. We need to promote the things that are great here.

Starlight, you are amazing. Thank you for posting and thank you for pointing a whole new swathe of internet users to your show announcement resources. Personally, this will help me embrace the culture you're bringing to our city. But more importantly, getting involved in new media for your advertising (like you've done so above here) is going to be amazing for your reputation.

Long live Starlight. I love your club.

Also, excuse me while I jump around in SHEER UTTER EXCITEMENT at Juliette Lewis coming to town. I saw her open for Chris Cornell in Toronto three years ago and I am thrilled that she's coming around. Who on this website wants to go catch this show with me?

Now that sister store Gloss has moved to Kitchener, I wonder if the Starlight will follow?

Maybe Rebecca can convince Starlight to take the plunge, but doubtful. Starlight has an amazing venue right where it is (minus the wheelchair ramp/elevator)

PS I'm also uber-excited to see Juliette Lewis come to town

Sister store! Love it, and wish that I owned the wonderful Starlight.. We are related, more like kissing cousins though. I bartend every Friday night and I clothe many of the other staff and the amazing owners Josh and Bernard, but thats where it ends.

I checked out Starlight after reading the Echo Readers Poll and seeing that Starlight won a bunch of categories. My friends and I had the best time! It was packed on Saturday, people were just having a good time and surprisingly the staff was all pretty nice! I'll definitely be going back and telling more people about this place!
