The Hamilton council has voted in favour of a West Harbour stadium. So far, it seems, that this is for the 15000 seat Pan Am stadium. I assume this will change if the Tiger Cats get on board. Ball is in their court...

Hurray! Bravo for political will to develop where the people are, rather than where special interests want them to be.

I think the TiCats owners are petulant and selfish if they decide to leave, but they did not make council blink.

Yup, the city did what's best for the city, and not the team's owner. Good for them. The West Harbour Stadium was a better spot anyways IMO.

Been a lot of changes since we last discussed this...

Tiger-Cats staying at Ivor Wynne site (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/story/2011/01/11/sp-ticats-stadium.html)
The Canadian Press

Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina and Hamilton Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young have agreed to give up the search for a site to build a new stadium — and simply rebuild the one they've already got.

The two made the announcement during a news conference Tuesday at Ivor Wynne Stadium, home of the CFL team. City council, which has discussed as many as five possible sites over several years of acrimonious debate, will get its chance to discuss the new proposal at its meeting on Wednesday.

Hamilton has until Feb. 1 to confirm plans for a stadium that would be used for the 2015 Pan American Games and then become the new home of the CFL's Ticats.

The planned $115-million stadium, funded by the city and the organizing committee, would have 25,000 seats, and would see the north stands remain intact while the south stands would be demolished and completely rebuilt. It would use about 10 hectares — the current stadium land, plus the land from the practice field next door and the closed-down high school across the road.

Many there are none too happy with the way the mayor and especially the Ti-Cats have conducted themselves in the stadium affair. I wouldn't bet on city council rubber stamping this.

My sense from the initial reaction to this proposal is that many people will be elated and relieved that the team is staying in Ivor Wynne. That being said, how Bob Young and the council got here is a lesson in ineptitude, and everybody involved ought to be plenty embarrassed and ashamed over their conduct throughout this entire process.

Rebuilding the current stadium really is the best option for Hamilton ... and with all of the money and time they have wasted fighting over different sites they could of had it paid for by now. Go Ti-cats!
