You are invited to a discussion on public space and community safety!

The Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council has engaged Cynthia Nikitin from Project for Public Spaces (www.pps.org (http://www.pps.org)) to visit Waterloo Region this October. In an effort to keep municipalities engaged in their important role of crime prevention, Cynthia will present a day of free workshops on community safety and crime prevention through placemaking. Placemaking is an approach for transforming public spaces through community participation, such that these spaces build on local assets, spur rejuvenation, and serve common needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for residents, neighbourhood associations, urban planners, architects, Council members and other community leaders to learn more about building accessible and user-friendly public spaces, and to understand how this supports a prevention approach to safer communities for everyone.

In planning for her workshop, community members are invited to participate in a conversation about the role of public space in community safety.

Date: August 11, 2011
Time: 10:30AM - 12:00PM
Location: Room 210 - Waterloo Region Public Health and Social Services (99 Regina St., Waterloo)

Tell us what you'd like to know about...
... tools and approaches for revitalizing public space
... the relationship between placemaking and crime prevention
... local examples of successful placemaking
... any other related topics of interest

Cynthia will take your feedback and incorporate it into the workshop, making the day as relevant and applicable to our community as possible. Please RSVP by August 10, 2011.

If you are unable to attend, we would still welcome your feedback! Feel free to email any suggestions for topics you might have to sue.weare@kitchener.ca
