Your best bet would be to either check the University of Waterloo archives (via the library) or the Kitchener Public Library Grace Schmidt Local History room. UW maintains the Record negative collection. If the detention centre was in the news (ie either opening or closing or anything in between), they would likely have a shot. Similarly, the KPL maintains a very large clipping file on local history so they may also be able to help. The Hespeler library branch (or the main Cambridge branch) may also have a similar set of clipping files. If you contact the librarian at any of the above they should be able to confirm if they have anything on file.
