CTV Orders New Comedy Pilot Dan for Mayor
Posted by: Diane in Dan For Mayor

From a media release:

* Corner Gas co-star Fred Ewanuick cast in lead role
* Pilot created, written and produced by Gemini Award-winning creative team

While politicians are stumping for votes across the country, CTV has thrown its support behind a new mayor. CTV announced today it has commissioned a new scripted, half-hour comedy pilot, Dan For
Mayor, starring Corner Gas co-star Fred Ewanuick. This is the second comedy pilot ordered in as many weeks, following last week’s announcement that CTV has commissioned a pilot for Brent Butt’s latest project, Hiccups. Dan For Mayor is created by three of Canada’s most respected comedy writers and
producers – Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Paul Mather (Corner Gas, Rick Mercer Report) and Kevin White (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes). The pilot for Dan for Mayor is slated to begin production outside Toronto on October 20.

In Dan for Mayor, Gemini Award-winning actor Fred Ewanuick (Corner Gas, Robson Arms) plays Dan, a 30-something bartender who lives and works in the fictional city of Wessex, Ontario. Dan’s had the same friends since grade school, his most prized possession is a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game, and his last
serious relationship was with a girl who is now engaged to someone else. His life seems to be firmly on the path to more of the same… until a chance comment suddenly puts him in the running for mayor of Wessex. Dan for Mayor charts Dan’s voyage of self-discovery as he, along with best friend Jeff and ex-girlfriend Claire, stumble their way towards election night.

“Dan for Mayor is a project with an award-winning creative team behind the scenes and an accomplished comedic actor in front,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “Dan is an easily likable character that resonates with anyone who has suddenly found themselves on a brand new career path.”

The pilot for Dan for Mayor is produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc. in association with CTV and The Comedy Network. Creators and executive producers are Mark Farrell, Paul Mather and Kevin White. Sue Murdoch (Doomstown) is the producer and Ron Murphy (Billable Hours, Heartland, ReGenesis) is the
director.

Farrell, Mather and White also worked together on the award-winning Corner Gas creative team. Mark Farrell was the Supervising Producer for Seasons 1 and 2 of Corner Gas and has continued to write and produce for the show, winning a Gemini Award for Best Comedy Writing last year. Gemini and Canadian Screenwriting Award winner Paul Mather was the Senior Story Editor on Season 1 before becoming Supervising Producer for Seasons 2-4. Gemini nominee, and winner of a Canadian Screenwriting Award (with Brent Butt), Kevin White was the Supervising Producer on Seasons 5 and 6.

CTV announces fall lineup

So far there have been no Hiccups on the road to Brent Butt, Nancy Robertson and Fred Ewanuick continuing their TV careers.

But Canadian viewers will have to be patient and wait until the 2010-11 season to see them again. CTV and A made several broadcasting announcements today, primarily relating to the 2009-10 campaign. But included on the docket for 2010-11 is Butt’s new series Hiccups, which features himself and Robertson, as well as Ewanuick’s new series Dan for Mayor.

...

Dan for Mayor, meanwhile, comes from the creative team of Mark Farrell, Paul Mather and Kevin White. Ewanuick stars as a 30-something bartender who runs for mayor of his home town.

“CTV gave us the good news (on Monday),” Ewanuick said today.

“Shooting the pilot went very well and I’m proud of the end result. The cast clicked pretty quickly, and they don’t seem to hate me, so that’s a good thing.

“I’m really happy to get another opportunity to work with Mark, Paul and Kevin as well. Each one of those guys at one point was the show-runner for Corner Gas.

“Getting another go on CTV is fantastic. I’m not sure what I did to be so lucky, but I’m pretty grateful for it.”

Kitchener, Waterloo become Wessex for filming of new sitcom

October 21, 2008
Brent Davis
RECORD STAFF

WATERLOO - The cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are playing a starring role as cameras roll on a new sitcom this week.

Well, we'll have to settle on being called Wessex, a fictional Ontario burg and setting for the pilot episode of the CTV television show Dan for Mayor.

Crews are filming at several locations around Kitchener and Waterloo this week, including retail businesses, private residences and Kitchener City Hall.

Yesterday, the Huether Hotel in Waterloo had been renamed Fern's Grill, home base for the young bartender who decides to run for mayor of his fine city.

Cameras rolled, inside and out, as star Fred Ewanuick ran through several scenes with his supporting cast members in the Huether's ground floor bar room.

Fans of the popular CTV comedy Corner Gas -- its sixth and final season is airing now -- will recognize Ewanuick as Hank Yarbo, who plays actor Brent Butt's best friend.

Corner Gas writers and producers Kevin White, Mark Farrell and Paul Mather comprise the creative team behind Dan for Mayor. Television veteran Ron Murphy was directing the pilot.

"We're really happy with the locations we've found," Mather said yesterday during a break in filming. "The cities have the exact character that we want."

That included things like diverse, interesting buildings, a main street and a community feel, said locations manager John Musikka.

"With the look of Kitchener and Waterloo, and the locations available, it was the closest match to what the producers had envisioned," he said.

If the network picks up the half-hour show, the rest of the first season would be shot next summer and would hit the air next fall or winter.

While the entire pilot episode is being shot on location in Kitchener and Waterloo, some production would likely shift to studios in Toronto if the series gets the green light.

But for the time being, production staff say the assistance they've been given from both city halls was key in bringing the pilot here.

"We did look at a lot of places in planning this," Musikka said. "Right from the beginning, there was a desire to co-operate."

Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran and the city's film liaison, Patricia Rutter, dropped by the Huether set to check out the action for themselves yesterday.

"My initial campaign was 'Brenda for Mayor,' " laughed Halloran.

"I feel like I'm watching my campaign unfold."

Clutching a cup of coffee, Sonia Adlys looked on from the sidelines as crew members bustled about.

"It's an eye-opener, what it takes to make a movie," said Adlys, one of the Huether's owners.

Although Waterloo has played host to productions in the past, Rutter said this is one of the largest.

"There's some real economic impact for the community," she said.

There’s a new Mayor in town
Corner Gas actor, Fred Ewanuick, says Kitchener is perfect size and fit for his new sitcom

November 13, 2009
By Joel Rubinoff

KITCHENER — As the camera crew buzzes around the corner of King Street and Willis Way with great resolve, a slew of extras await their cue, passersby gawk with curiosity and a slight, nondescript figure hovers imperceptibly on the sidelines, observing the chaos but somehow separate from it.

He’s innocuous, this unshaven onlooker with hands jammed in his pockets, about 38 years old, wearing a brown cord jacket, sneakers and a makeshift Dan For Mayor button.

But if you stare at him long enough, Fred Ewanuick begins to look vaguely familiar — especially to fans of the long-running CTV sitcom Corner Gas.

He is, in his own words, “that guy from that show,’’ and as he observes the filming of a new Canadian sitcom in which Kitchener-Waterloo stands in for the fictional Canadian city of Wessex, it’s hard to believe he’s the star.

“I do as I’m told,’’ Ewanuick confides modestly, eager to downplay his role. “People write words for me to say, tell me where to stand and every once in awhile they tell me how to say them. It’s a pretty easy job when you break it down.”

Like most Canadian actors working without the rocket-powered boost of U.S. stardom, he is, perhaps, being too modest, having just graduated from one of the most successful Canadian sitcoms of all time in a country that rarely twigs to its own talent without the stamp of international acclaim.

Corner Gas — about a gaggle of eccentrics who hang out in a gas station diner in small town Saskatchewan — wasn’t a huge international hit, critics will tell you, but it was a huge hit in Canada, the first since The King of Kensington and, arguably, The Beachcombers, in the way it spoke to ordinary Canadians without pretense or condescension.

Ewanuick, who played Brent Butt’s perpetually unemployed best pal Hank, was the classic sitcom loser, a lovable village idiot who defaults on loans, loves grape Pop Rocks and does absolutely nothing of consequence.

In his new show, Dan For Mayor — to air next season on CTV — Ewanuick plays another arrested adolescent drifting aimlessly through life — until, that is, he decides to run for mayor.

“This is the perfect leading man,’’ he quips between scenes outside Channer’s Men’s Apparel on King Street. “Because he’s not the leading man type — he’s just a likeable guy, not overly good-looking, the guy that hangs around with the crowd, that everyone likes but who’s not really the centre of attention.’’

He smiles sardonically: “That’s more or less my life.’’

If there’s a difference from Corner Gas, it’s in what Ewanuick — at the Kitchener Chapters on Gateway Park Drive Saturday at 3 p.m. to sign copies of a new Corner Gas coffee table book — terms “real moments” that mark his character’s evolution from directionless schlump to, well, we’ll have to wait and see.

“On Corner Gas I got to be the guy everyone would laugh at doing stupid things,’’ confides the personable anti-star, who grew up in Port Moody, B.C. and was kicked out of acting school for being a “goof-off.”

“On this I have to be the window for the audience and let everyone else get the ‘funny!’ ’’

The question, for those who live in Waterloo Region and have never seen it portrayed in a Canadian sitcom — albeit as the fictional city of Wessex — is why here?

“Toronto is like Guinness and Dog River, Saskatchewan (the fictional town where Corner Gas was set) is Pilsener. I don’t really like Pilsener and want to like Guinness, so you mix the Guinness and Pilsener and . . . “

Huh? What? He goes on like this for several minutes, eventually arriving at Black and Tan, a half Guinness-half lager concoction I gather is supposed to represent Kitchener-Waterloo.

This, of course, is a compliment.

“It’s big enough that it’s got its own bus system, but small enough that a guy like Dan can get elected as mayor,’’ says Ewanuick, unable to confirm if his character will, in fact, win the election.

“And Kitchener has a streak of the eccentric going on,’’ notes co-star Paul Bates, who plays Dan’s campaign manager. “All those characters hanging out around city hall.’’

Creator Paul Mathers, one of three with Corner Gas writing credentials, says a mid-sized city like Kitchener-Waterloo — even in fictional form — is more likely to resonate with viewers than some faceless, teeming metropolis.

“Most people in Canada live in cities,’’ he points out, noting scenes have been shot at Victoria Park, the Huether Hotel and Kitchener city hall. “But most don’t live in Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto.

“We liked the way Kitchener looked. The city hall is really distinctive and we liked the look of King Street — it says this is a city, an urban environment, but with more open space and much brighter.

“And everybody’s nice. They’re not jaded with the production. They’re not sick of us yet.’’

Ewanuick, accosted in the middle of one scene by a female autograph-hound who didn’t realize the cameras were rolling, agrees:

“It’s definitely more small town,’’ he laughs. “It’s more familiar — everybody’s part of the community. In Toronto (where interior scenes are filmed) I don’t get approached as much. They’re like ‘Why are you in my way?’ ’’

Though scripts were written before setting up camp in Waterloo Region six weeks ago, Ewanuick notes the writers did manage to work in cameos by Kitchener mayor Carl Zehr, as a door-slamming resident petitioned for votes, and Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran as a nosy TV reporter.

“Let me just say I was impressed with their abilities,” quips Ewanuick, adding “I hope they’re better mayors than they are actors.’’

And, of course, what would a Kitchener-based sitcom be without at least one Oktoberfest joke?

“We’re having a meeting about Oktoberfest,’’ one character reportedly tells a slew of advisors. “We’re thinking of changing the month!’’

I look forward to seeing familiar landmarks on TV! I lived in Vancouver for a few years and it seemed you couldn't go a week without walking past a movie production site. It was exciting and cast off an energy and buzz, especially when you saw the movie and recalled "I was there when they shot that scene"! I can't wait to experience that here.

I totally agree. That's one of the things I initially liked about Flashpoint so much (other than the fact that it's an awesome show). You'd watch it and see all these shots of locations that you know, that you've been to.

Fred Ewanuick stars in DAN FOR MAYOR.

"DAN FOR MAYOR comes from three of Canada's most successful comedy writers and producers and stars one of our country's most loveable actors," said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. "We're betting viewers will vote for DAN FOR MAYOR."

"I'm very excited. CTV has given us a great time slot, on a great night," said Fred Ewanuick. "I'm proud of the work everyone has done on the show, and I hope Canada likes it as much as I do."

Dan's (Ewanuick) life has been uneventful until he is faced with the unexpected career change of running for mayor of his hometown. He lives and works in the fictional city of Wessex, Ontario, has the same friends since grade school, his most prized possession is a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game and his last serious relationship was with a girl who is now engaged to someone else. DAN FOR MAYOR follows Dan's journey of self-discovery as he, his ex-girlfriend, Claire (Mary Ashton, DEGRASSI GOES HOLLYWOOD), and best friend, Jeff (Paul Bates, Welcome to Mooseport), figure out Dan's new-found political career, deal with the unexpected, and prove that experience isn't everything.

Filmed in Toronto, Kitchener and Waterloo, Ontario, DAN FOR MAYOR also stars Benjamin Ayres (VAMPIRE DIARIES) as Mike, a savvy business man who is Claire's fiancé; Suzanne Coy (HEARTLAND) as Anita, the appliance store owner; Agam Darshi (SANCTUARY) as Brianna, Anita's niece; Laurie Murdoch (FLASHPOINT) as Alan, the deputy mayor of Wessex; David Ferry (THIS IS WONDERLAND) as Fern, the owner of the bar and Dan's boss; and Lara Jean Chorostecki (DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION) as Charlie, Dan's beautiful coworker.

A few real life Mayors also make cameo appearances in the first season of DAN FOR MAYOR. Carl Zehr, Mayor of Kitchener, plays a Wessex resident; Brenda Halloran, Mayor of Waterloo, appears as a TV reporter; and David Miller, Mayor of Toronto, visits Fern's Bar and Grill. When asked their opinion on how Dan should play his cards when running for mayor, Zehr responded: "Go for the gusto and say it like it is. Just be yourself," Halloran adds: "Don't let anyone tell you that you can't be mayor. Don't let anyone stop you." And after shooting his bar scene Miller suggests: "Stay out of the bar."

In the DAN FOR MAYOR premiere episode "The Blind Spot" (premiering Mon., March 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CTV), we meet Dan Phillips (Ewanuick) as he learns his former girlfriend Claire Kendal (Ashton) is engaged to someone else. When she breaks the news to Dan, he reacts the way most of us would - by telling her he's running for mayor.

DAN FOR MAYOR is produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc. in association with CTV and The Comedy Network. The series is created and written by three of Canada's most respected comedy writers and producers - Executive Producers Mark Farrell (CORNER GAS; THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES), Paul Mather (CORNER GAS; THE RICK MERCER REPORT) and Kevin White (CORNER GAS; THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES). Susan Murdoch (DOOMSTOWN) is Producer. Ron Murphy (BEING ERICA; REGENESIS) and Brian K. Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond; the Drew Carey Show) are the Directors. Pretend mayor, pretend city, real humour
By Joel Rubinoff, Record staff - February 27, 2010
http://news.therecord.com/arts/article/677077

KITCHENER — He’s a loser with attitude, a dishevelled boy-man obsessed with video games from the ’80s, a likable underdog whose girlfriend dumped him and who — unassuming and underestimated — bears a vague resemblance to Radar O’Reilly, the hilariously low-key company clerk from TV’s M*A*S*H.

He’s Dan Phillips (Fred Ewanuick), and in the shot-in-Kitchener and Waterloo TV show Dan For Mayor — which premieres 8:30 p.m. Monday on CTV — he’s the lethargically humorous fulcrum for a Canadian sitcom that has, improbably, found a natural home in the land of beer barrels, high-tech and schnitzel.

It’s called Wessex, a fictional stand-in for the twin cities that’s not too big, not too small, just a typical Canadian bastion of infighting and eccentricity, obsessed not with amalgamation and “save the polka” campaigns, but with the equally quirky goal of becoming the rake capital of Canada.

What better place, with due respect to Kitchener mayor Carl Zehr and Waterloo mayor Brenda Halloran — both of whom have cameos in the series — for a guy like Dan to run for mayor?

“It’s not a joke,” he tells his skeptical pals at the bar where he mixes drinks and which canny TV viewers may recognize as Waterloo’s Huether Hotel. “I’m really running for mayor.”

Created by three writers/producers of the recently wrapped Canadian mega-hit Corner Gas — in which Ewanuick played a lovable village idiot who hung out at a diner in small town Saskatchewan — Dan For Mayor is that show’s scrappier, snappier city cousin, a plot-driven offshoot that gives the 38-year-old Port Moody native the star-making platform he deserves while boasting the same penchant for witty wordplay and ironic misunderstanding.

“Look, we need to get some press,” Dan urges his campaign manager (Paul Bates) after realizing no one in the city takes his candidacy seriously. “Maybe you should call the paper and give them the scoop.”

“The scoop, huh?” interjects the perky young waitress (Lara Jean Chorostecki) who delights in goading the Gen-X throwback about his age. “Or maybe we can get the telegraph operator to wire a dispatch to Newsie the paper boy.”

Dan, as always, looks perplexed. “I thought they called it a ‘scoop’,” he mutters.

The waitress glares disdainfully. “Many things have changed since you arrived here in your time machine.”

It’s a quietly amusing show, this offbeat celebration of “an ordinary guy in an ordinary bar in the ordinary city of Wessex,” and while it may not provide the same ratio of laugh track knee-slappers as, say, Two and a Half Men — in fact, it has no laugh track — its charms run deeper.

Jokes or not, local residents will enjoy playing spot-that-location, as the series — filmed over the past year — jumps from uptown Waterloo to downtown Kitchener and back, with a slew of familiar, if cleverly disguised landmarks, including the Huether, Kitchener City Hall (inside and out), St. Clair Appliances and Channer’s Men’s Apparel.

Premiering after the Olympics and sandwiched between Hiccups — the new comedy from fellow Corner Gas alumni Brent Butt — and the hot American comedy Two and a Half Men, the show seems poised to become a hit, which could, conceivably, put Kitchener-Waterloo on the map as a go-to town for generic mid-sized Canadian cities.

“I think the pilot is pretty good,” Ewanuick confides, with typical Canadian understatement.

“There’s some jokes, we get to know the characters, and the ending is pretty cool and hooks you into what happens next. People seem really excited about it.”

By “people”, he means people he knows, something that becomes clear when — eager for outside opinions — he asks me to email him my thoughts after watching the advance screener supplied by CTV (seriously, other than my mother, who cares what I think?)

“Give it a chance,” says Ewanuick, addressing the whole of Kitchener-Waterloo and apologizing in advance if residents take offence at the show’s fictional (but gently humorous) portrayal.

Wow! Talk about the plot line moving quickly! haha "I don't trust anybody born after Jedi".

I'm going to watch it again! I think the show has great potential and I love the opening credits with shots of recognizable KW buildings... and hey, doesn't City Hall look great?

Everyone else catch Carl being asked to Vote for Dan? It could have been great (local) comedy if he had thrown his hat in the ring (as a joke candidate obviously since he wouldn't have too much time for the show) once the mayoral race opened up.

I was a little worried after the first episode that the plot was moving too fast, but since they are basically re-doing the election campaign, the series premiere makes a lot more sense now.

As for Carl Zehr, he had a great cameo. I was kind of hoping it would be a little longer though. I wonder if they filmed that at his actual house.

CTV's HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR Debut with 1.9 Million Viewers Each
March 2, 2010 - http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/corp/CTVShows/20100303/ctv_release2_100302/20100303?hub=announce

Two new homegrown comedies win timeslots against HOUSE and THE BACHELOR
Inaugural CTV.ca live online chats a great success with almost 700 comments submitted
HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR latest to join CTV's online line-up at CTV.ca

Toronto, ON (March 2, 2010) - CTV's newest homegrown comedies, HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR, premiered to 1.9 million viewers each last night, becoming the most-watched premieres of any scripted Canadian series this season. The two new series won the 8 - 9 p.m. ET timeslot against both HOUSE (Global/FOX, 1.3 million) and the season finale of THE BACHELOR (City/ABC, 1.3 million, 8-9 p.m.). Head-to-head, HICCUPS delivered 240% more viewers than 18 TO LIFE (CBC; 558,000) at 8 p.m. ET, while DAN FOR MAYOR delivered 374% more viewers than LITTLE MOSQUE ON THE PRAIRIE (CBC; 404,000) at 8:30 p.m. ET.

HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR delivered a big lead-in to their counterparts in CTV's Monday night comedy block, with both TWO AND A HALF MEN and BIG BANG THEORY winning the night with 2.3 million viewers each at 9 and 9:30 p.m. ET.

** Media Note ** - Download photos for HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR at www.ctvmedia.ca

Last night, CTV.ca hosted the site's first ever live online chat during a premiere broadcast. HICCUPS star Nancy Robertson and DAN FOR MAYOR star Fred Ewanuick interacted with fans through the premiere of their respective shows. Both stars answered questions directly from fans, and responded to comments about their new shows, careers, Team Canada Men's Hockey, and the legacy of CORNER GAS. Announced only days before broadcast, viewers responded with amazing enthusiasm, submitting almost 700 questions and comments.

Both HICCUPS Live Chat with Nancy Robertson and DAN FOR MAYOR Live Chat with Fred Ewanuick remain available for replay, and both premieres will be available on CTV.ca beginning Sunday, March 7, following encore broadcasts of HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR on Saturday, March 6 at 8 and 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on The Comedy Network.

The laughs continue next week when HICCUPS and DAN FOR MAYOR return with new episodes, Monday, March 8 at 8 and 8:30 p.m. ET.

On HICCUPS, Stan comes to Millie's aid when she gets in trouble with her condo council. At Haddison House, Joyce promises to look at some of Taylor's clients if he promises to find someone to fix her dying plants.

On DAN FOR MAYOR, a tragic public transport accident leaves Dan thinking he is a shoe-in for the position of Mayor. But Dan is shocked to learn that the late Mayor is still ahead in the polls. Dan is also beginning to realize that the people close to him, like his campaign manager (and best friend) Jeff, don't believe he's qualified for the job.

House Call Bad Medicine for Hiccups, Mayor
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 - http://tvfeedsmyfamily.blogspot.com/2010/03/looks-like-house-just-gave-hiccups.html

Looks like House just gave Hiccups the hiccups. According to a Global release, and based on BBM data, the good doctor checked back in with a new episode and drew an overnight, estimated 2,866,000 viewers at 8 o'clock on Global Monday night. That took some of the wind out of the second episodes of CTV comedies Hiccups (1,156,000) and Dan For Mayor (1,109,000). It was the strongest showing for House this winter according to Global.
The CTV rookies blasted out of the gate at 1.9 million each one week earlier after a ton of super-sized Olympic promotion. This week's take for Hiccups and Dan For Mayor still dwarfed audiences for the Canadian comedies opposite Monday at 8 on CBC, 18 to Life (385,000) and Little Mosque (380,000).
Also in the mix nationally at 8 last night was The Bachelor on Citytv (860,000).
CTV rebounded at 9 p.m. with incredibly strong numbers for comedy imports Two and a Half Men and the Big Bang Theory, both around the 2.2 million mark.

Agreed the cameo should have been longer than 3 seconds. Unfortunately that's not his actual house though, as he lives out in the suburbs.

That's the one! I'm not 100% sure it was him either, but if you watch you have to wonder why the director shows him walking for so long before they pan to Dan & Claire in the booth. Since they've shown other prominent locals in the series already (Jeff Hutcheson, Carl Zehr, Brenda Halloran) it makes sense.

No new episode this week? I turned to CTV and they were showing CSI: Miami.

According the Dan For Mayor (http://danformayor.ca/) website, the show will return on Monday May 24th. Why they would choose to restart the season on a public holiday Monday is beyond me. The CTV (http://shows.ctv.ca/) website doesn't even list Dan for Mayor as part of it's Primetime and Late Night shows line up anymore. However, CTV's website still seems to be hosting the videos from earlier episodes.

I hope this doesn't indicate the demise of a "made in Waterloo Region" television show! :(

I was at City Hall today and yesterday for a bit I met the director and some of the crew. It was all very repetitive, but still cool. I have some history with acting and working with film myself, so it was great to be on set. Pretty neat seeing the 'Wessex' flag flying at City Hall yesterday too.

Anyone know when season 2 is going to start?

Anyone know when season 2 is going to start?

I've checked both the Dan for Mayor site (http://danformayor.ca/schedule.html) and the CTV site (http://shows.ctv.ca/DanForMayor.aspx) and neither of them give a start date for Season 2.

If they're just starting production now, it could be a mid-season start (mid January to February) like it was last year - since the seasons only seem to be 13 episodes.

Welcome to Wonderful Waterloo!

I know they were here working on season 2 a couple months ago, season 2 filming might have wrapped up though, so maybe not until next year.

According to an article on the CTV.ca (http://shows.ctv.ca/DanForMayor/article/Production-begins-of-season-two-of-Dan-for-Mayor#c_0) website, Dan for Mayor is currently filming in Kitchener, Toronto and Hamilton until December 2010.

Season 2 is scheduled to premier as a mid-season entry with 13 episodes, probably sometime close to the March 1st debut season one had.

Dan for Mayor has now been officially cancelled.

I tried to watch it at the beginning just for the Waterloo Region shots but it was really bad and had to stop.

Sad for the region though.

Season 2 was definitely going downhill.

And without him running around KW, there was no longer the "local pride" reason to watch anymore.

Agreed. I watched all of first season and thought it was great.
I couldn't watch more than 2 or 3 shows for the second season.
